Sisters Are Doing It for Themselves

African American Women in History

with

Constance Denson-Hamilton & Zelda Foxall

History has remained almost silent on the triumphs of African-American women. No more. Six of these women are stepping forward to tell their own stories of how they overcame the tremendous odds of poverty, racism and ignorance to climb to the top of their fields. While some people might consider it arrogant, boastful, or lacking in humility to talk about your own achievements, there’s a saying in the African-American community: “It’s a poor dog that can’t wag it’s own tail.” Since history didn’t do it for them, these sisters are here today doing it for themselves. This project is still in development, so we gratefully welcome all comments from you, our audience.
